Herb Yellin was a one-of-a-kind character and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I was researching my Lord John Press Film Festival when I encountered this obituary. We shared a passion for books, film and the ponies -- I'll never forget him calling me after Barbaro's great win. He was just so happy for me because he as my pick! Kind, cool and canny -- I'll miss this man's man and offer my condolences to his loved ones. A great, great friend...

Herb was a very influential person to me as I started my career as a rare book dealer in the 1970s. He was very encouraging and supportive to a young man trying to find his way in the business. I am very grateful. Rest with my thanks for his help.
