Jack Angel Obituary

October 24, 1930 - October 18, 2021 Jack passed away peacefully just 6 days shy of his 91st, birthday. His wife Arlene and his son Mitch were by his side. Jack graduated from Berkeley High in 1948 and was a graduate of SFSU. He loved being in the Army and was a graduate of OCS. Jack spent 18 years in radio before becoming one of the voiceover legends in L.A. Disney/Pixar, Dreamworks, and Hanna Barbera are just a few of the companies he worked for. He voiced seven different characters in the Transformers animated series, as well as the lead villain Zarkin, in Voltron. He was a promo announcer for 10 years at NBC. Jack first worked for Steven Spielberg in 1995 when he was flown to London to play the role of Nikki in the animated film "Balto". The second time was in 2001 when Steven hired him to voice the role of Teddy in the fiction drama "A.I." He spent three and half months working side by side with the master. A dream job for any voiceover actor. Jack was the author of two books. How to Succeed in Voiceovers without Ever Losing and the Book of Jack. A funny informative story of who Jack was and how he attained the title of Voice Legend. Jack met his wife Arlene at the talent agency where she worked. It was love at first sight. Their eyes met with a sense of knowing that was hard to explain. Jack always said "we knew we knew each other, but we knew we never met." They married in l984 and spent the next 37 years traveling, attending movie premieres, and going to NY on a regular basis to soak up as many Broadway shows as possible. Their life together was perfect. As difficult as his passing has been, Arlene has been comforted by the hundreds of tweets, tributes, emails and cards sending love and thanks for sharing this incredible man with the rest of the world. His voice will live on forever. He is survived by his wife Arlene and his children from his first marriage-Leslie, Mitch and Ron.

I remember Jack Angel from his time at KFI in the early 1970s. I believe he was the mid-morning personality after the Lohman and Barkley show. I did not realize that KFI was just one small piece of a very large resume of entertainment accomplishments. Condolences to his family. So sad another piece of LA radio has passed.
