James Buescher Obituary

Jim Buescher, age 68, a leading executive in the Promotional Products Business, passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife Bobbi on New Years Day, January 1, 2014, following a brief illness. Born June 6, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Buescher, he received B.A. and Masters Degrees from Kansas University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. A highly recognized and inspirational business leader, innovator and mentor to countless professionals for over 40 years, Jim was Partner/Chief Operating Officer of PromoShop, one of the largest promotional products agencies. Earlier in his distinguished career Jim served as President of Hazel Inc. of California; Partner/President of Gift-O-Rama/Monogram; and Chief Operating Officer of Idea Man, Inc., all California based enterprises. Among many business and professional highlights, Jim served as President of the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce; the Young Presidents Organization (YPO); Specialty Advertising Association of California (SAAC); and was recognized by the U.S. Congress and the California Legislature. Jim was an avid sports and beach enthusiast, exercise buff, and world traveler. Together with Bobbi, his beautiful wife of 38 years, they circled the globe including, most recently, another trip to Rome with a Blessing from Pope Francis. But, they always returned home to Manhattan Beach, California and their English Bulldog Daisy! Jim is also survived by his only sister Susan Anderson(Hank) of Washington, MO; numerous In-Laws, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of great friends and business associates. To Know Him Was To Love Him! A Celebration of Life Mass will be on Monday, January 6th, at 10:00 A.M. at American Martyrs Catholic Church, 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a donation to the Foundation for SAAC c/o James F. Buescher Legacy Scholarship Fund, 1200 Paseo Camarillo #100, Camarillo, CA 93010, or Heal the Bay at healthebay.org.

Jimmy, I first met you in 1969 in Lawrence Kansas. You became my Pledge Father at the Sigma Chi house and a year later you became my Brother. Since then you have been a Mentor and my Best Friend. I will miss watch KU basketball games and Cardinal baseball games with you, but most of all I will miss our walks on the strand. Not to worry old friend, we will always be there for Bobbi.

I attended the services today and wasn't a bit surprised at the hundreds of people that showed up to celebrate Jim's life. He was an incredible person and I feel so very lucky to have known him. I worked with him at Hazel in the early 80s (as Karen Williston's inside rep) and when I left Hazel I saw him several times a year. He would always smile at me as if we had a secret between us. We didn't but it always made me feel special. I can't imagine what you are going through, Bobbi. I hope you find comfort in your memories of him.

I am so very sorry for this news Bobbi. What a wonderful person Jim was. Dustin said he was very happy to have the sailboat that Jim gave to him. My heart breaks for you. You have wonderful memories with Jim, try and stay strong and know that you will be together again. Love Dawn and Dustin Reinke

To know him was to love him indeed describes Jim. We are neighbors of Jim and Bobbi and have absolutely had the pleasure of knowing Jim and Bobbi for the last seven years. Jim loved life and had a kind heart and a wonderful laugh that I can hear when I think of him. I'm heart broken for Bobbi's loss and for all that knew him. Rest in peace Jim, we will miss you greatly.
