Jeanette Gold Obituary

June 25, 1924 - September 9, 2014 Widow of composer Ernest Gold. "Jan" Gold, 90, passed away in Glendale, CA of natural causes. A multi-talented performer and writer through her years, she wrote for long-standing soap opera The Secret Storm (1954-1974). During the mid-1940's, she landed a leading role in The Drunkard, the longest running stage show in Los Angeles (1933-1959.) She was also a fine singer and lyricist, writing lyrics for "My Rumble Seat Gal" from the movie The Runner Stumbles (1979) starring Dick Van Dyke. Her second husband Ernest Gold was the film's composer. She was married to the Oscar winner (Exodus) from 1975 until his passing in 1999. Her quick humor and ability to imitate any dialect kept us all laughing. Her warm heart, perfect smile, classic beauty and love of all things Italian were traits we will now surely miss. She is survived by her son Robert Webster Light, Jr., her brother Ed Keller and sister-in-law Millie, her two step-daughters Martha (Gold) Carr and Melani Gold Friedman, six grandchildren (through marriage) and two great grandchildren. Her step-son, singer-songwriter Andrew Gold passed away in June of 2011. She is preceded in death by her sister Marie and her first husband Robert Light, Sr., who passed away in 2010. The two remained good friends after their 1968 divorce. Donations can be made in her name to: https://getinvolved.glaucoma.org/donate

Jeanette was a lovely lady in every way! She was a warm and welcoming hostess during our visits to her home and always filled the air with her good stories and hearty laughter! Our children will remember the sweet Christmas cards with the crisp five dollar bills that Jeanette always remembered to send. Rest in peace dear lady, you will always be in our hearts.

She was my Godmother and I'll always remember her beautiful smile, her fun (and funny) songs and her warm, generous heart. May she rest in peace and may her family find comfort in their memories of a wonderful lady.
