Jeremy Swan Obituary

Swan, Dr. Jeremy
Died February 7, 2005 at the age of 82 from complications of a heart attack. He was born in Ireland and received his MD, Ph.D. in London. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1951. Dr. Swan was at the Mayo Clinic before coming to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he was Director of Cardiology for 22 years. He was best known for the Swan-Ganz Catheter, an innovation that touched thousands of patients lives. He was a giant in cardiovascular medicine, and a brilliant teacher, mentoring a generation of young cardiologists. Dr. Swan was past president of the American College of Cardiology and was honored during his lifetime with many distinguished awards. Those who knew him best will say he was an enthusiastic human being who loved his family and students and who transmitted his commitment of personal integrity to both personal and professional life. He is predeceased by his daughter Katherine and is survived by his wife, Roma, six children, Elizabeth, Caroline, Jeremy, Eleanor, Geraldine and Gordon and their spouses and 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Memorial services will be held Friday, Feb. 18 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 No. Gower St. Hollywood. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to "H.J.C. Swan Memorial Heart Fund" dedicated to supporting heart research and education in the Division of Cardiology. Contributions may be sent to: Division of Cardiology at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Room 5347, 8700 Beverly Blvd., L.A., CA 90048.
