Jerry Friedman Obituary

December 12, 1935 - May 13, 2020 After 84 years of living an extraordinary life, Jerry Friedman, a brilliant businessman and visionary in the defense industry, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2020 surrounded by family in Los Angeles. Gerald M. Friedman was born on December 12, 1935 in New York City to Harriet and Robert "Mac" Friedman. He is survived by his children Mark Friedman, Julie Jaffe and Jennifer Lechter, his son-in-law Ariel Lechter and his grandchildren Georgia and Nick Jaffe and Eliana, Zack, Josh and Daniella Lechter. After attending Hollywood High School, Jerry graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a B.S. degree in Accounting and number one in his MBA class. In 1960, Jerry served as an artillery officer in the United States Army with a rank of first lieutenant.A top athlete, Jerry exceled at basketball throughout school. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to play for Coach John Wooden at UCLA, and the experience deepened his love for sports. In the 1970s, Jerry turned his focus to tennis, winning tournaments throughout Southern California and 2 gold medals at the Maccabee Games in Israel. At 60 years old, Jerry was ranked 35th by the U.S. Tennis Association. Jerry joined Marvin Engineering in 1965 and together with Marvin Gussman would grow this small, Inglewood-based machine shop into a globally recognized leader in the aerospace and defense industries. As Chairman and CEO, Jerry was known for his financial acuity, sharp sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit and unparalleled negotiating skills. Jerry's desire to grow and generate new business motivated him to make shrewd investments and take calculated risks that would secure Marvin Group's place as an industry leader. Jerry took immense pride in the growth and success of his employees, who were like extended family to him for over the last 55 years. Jerry's drive earned him success across many disciplines, but his greatest legacy is the positive impact he had on all those in his life personally and professionally. Jerry inspired everyone around him to challenge and believe in themselves. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

I remember Bianca and Jerry Friedman so well. I met her on Malibu Road in Malibu 2015. She was so excited to introduce me to "the most interesting man in the world"! I said, "Wow! You're married to the dos eces guy!" She said "No, Jerry Friedman!" And looked at me as if she had no idea of that really famous line from the dos eces commercials. As I got to know her and Jerry, it was like wow! She really does see him that way and he was equally enthralled by her. They would come over to my family's house and have dinner on almost every Sunday night when they would be at their home in Malibu. She just disappeared one day in 2019 and I've been looking for her ever since. I had no idea her Jerry had died. Blessings to you beloved. You are such a beautiful person and thank you for introducing us to your love. With love and respect.

How wonderful it was to have known Jerry and his beautiful wife, Bianca Taylor. We all would go on boat rides in the Marina Del Rey on Sundays where Jerry and Bianca would host my wife and I with Sushi while we enjoyed the water. I really loved them as a couple and have missed thier company. I pray that she is cared for and loved as much as Jerry loved her here on earth. If she sees this message, please visit my wife and I anytime. In loving memory of Jerry the great.

Marty.

Jerry was an awesome man and loved his family and the family at Marvin. I only met him once or twice at the Christmas Parties for the employees. My Husband Ted (Teddy) Keys worked for Marvin Gussman and Jerry Friedman while in High School and up until they transferred him to ADI a part of Marvin Engineering. He was their go to person for errands besides working in the machine shop. Ted Loved working with both of these great men and felt it an honor to work them. Ted and I send prayers to Mark Friedman, Julie Jeffe & Jennifer & Ariel Lechter and all the Grandchildren. May Jerry always be remembered for his kindness, laughter, and caring boss that not only loved his personal family, but his family at Marvin Engineering. God Bless you all and prayers to you all that are grieving this loss of a great man.

My heart is very sad. The last time I saw Jerry we smiled, hugged and shared a friendly kiss. Such a beautiful memory. He was my Jims best friend. So many memories of their travels. It is definitely the end of a beautiful era. Thank you for inviting me and my heart goes out to Mark, Jennifer, Julie and Dianne. They will be in my prayers. My love goes out to all at the Marvin Group as I know this is a very emotional time for them. I am there with you in spirit. Sending prayers and much Love from Rani Fish and family.
