John Cromwell Obituary

Cromwell, John David
September 12, 1976 - February 3, 2011
John was born in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in Ventura County. John garnered presidential honors for scholarship and athleticism in middle school, and he went on to play high school football, track, and baseball. He graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory and, in 1995, he earned a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship at the University of San Diego. He graduated with a BA in History, and was commissioned by President Clinton as a naval officer in 1998. He attended flight school in Pensacola, Florida and separated from the Navy in 2000 as a result of medical complications.

After serving as a naval officer, his professional endeavors included working as a business manager, health services entrepreneur, and physical rehabilitation specialist. From his childhood until his passing, John enjoyed surfing throughout California, Baja, and Hawaii. As a Christian steward, he served the communities of Ventura County, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica. John also heeded the call to serve as a Christian missionary. He ministered to the Mayan Indians of Mexico and the rural villagers of Cameroon, Africa. At the time of his passing, John was being treated for a service-connected illness by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles.
All are welcome to attend the funeral service held in honor of John Cromwell. Services Saturday, February 26 at 1:00 pm at Blessed Hope Chapel, 23 West Easy Street #204, Simi Valley, Ca. 93065, (805) 520-5882.

Was thinking of John today. Decided to look him up and found his obituary. I am at a loss for words. Truly a person that would give you the shirt off his back. Miss you brother!

I lost contact with John in the late 1990s shortly after he joined the military. We went to Chaminade together and I last saw him in San Diego. He was a great guy. A truly good hearted soul. I always wish I had remained in contact with him but could not find him. I know it's been a couple years but my fond memories of him will live on in my heart forever. My condolences to his family. I would love to pay respects to him if someone wouldn't mind contacting me.

This is such a sad event. John had the biggest heart and a smile to accompany it. John was in my class at St. Rose and he was one of the kindest people. Keep on smiling John!

Although I only saw John a few times while growing up in Simi Valley, I would like to say that from one service member to another- Thank you John for serving our country and for continuing your work through your ministries. You will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing you. May you rest in peace.

I met John in the first grade, and I had the pleasure of going to school with him all the way through highschool. Even as a child, John was so sweet. He always had a heart so full of love. John was also such a strong and stable person...like a rock. Everybody could always count on John. We will miss you, John! Thank you for impacting and touching all the lives that you did while you were down here on earth. And, thank you for all the wonderful memories. My heart goes out to his family and friends in the days to come...

I have nothing but the best memories of the kindness John had. I trust He made the most of the time he had on this earth and had quite an impact on all those he came in contact with. I remember him as a man of immense character and deep faith.

Wow.... Life is a mystery sometimes... One of the nicest people I have ever known on this planet, though our time together was a short four years, I can hear him as I type, May God bless his journey, and his family.

I will miss seeing John at Blessed Hope Chapel, where I enjoyed talking to him about our Lord and his Mother.I know in my heart that he is with her today. My condolences are with his family. 2nd Corinthians 5:8 To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. Looking forward to seeing you again my precious brother in Christ.
