John Kihm Obituary

November 11, 1936 - September 6, 2021 John B. Kihm III was born in Lorain, Ohio and entered the Naval Submarine service in 1954 when he was 17 years of age. He qualified in Submarines and swam with Underwater Demolition Team 5. After he left the Submarine service, he was transferred to Naval Intelligence and worked along with the Central Intelligence Agency. As part of his cover, he started the Prudential Mortgage Company and became a Real Estate Broker in 1958. In late 1962, he was discharged from the Navy and given a GS-15 rating with the government. He signed a 75-year non-disclosure statement with the government, agreeing to take what he did for the government to his grave and he has done that. During his career, he opened different companies like American City Construction with 10 classifications and National Security and Investigation Agency. Later in life, he trained to become an Actor. He belonged to the Screen Actors Guild and was featured in commercials, movies, television shows, and plays (aka Jack Seal). He enjoyed playing a variety of characters and always left everyone laughing. John continued his education in his golden years, earning an AA degree in Administration of Justice from Santa Monica City College (summa cum laude) and a BA in Psychology from Cal State University Northridge at the tender age of 84, Class of 2020. He is survived by his wonderful and beautiful wife, Lucy, who took outstanding care of him as he slowly declined in health. With Lucy, he was able to have the family bond he always yearned for. He is survived by step-children, Lisa Sphatt (Kevin) and Robert Weisskirch (Paige) and his grandchildren, Jacob Sphatt, Zane Sphatt, and Sloan Weisskirch. He cared a great deal for his sister Ruth, his nieces and nephews, Karen (John), their son, Matthew, Kevin (Betsy), Charlene, and Michelle (deceased) and their families. His other chosen family was helmed by Stanley(deceased) and Myrna Zimmerman. He loved Jay, David (Lisa), Tommy (Kat), Rebecca, and all their children, as his own. The funeral service is September, 13, 2021 at Hillside Memorial Park, 1PM for viewing and 2PM for interment. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to JDRF or Navy SEAL Foundation. One thing that is for sure: the world is a dimmer place without John Kihm.

Dear Lucy and family and friends of John´s, on behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at John´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" leaves on Eternal Patrol. We are grateful for John´s distinguished service to our country and to the U.S. Submarine Service. He served with honor aboard the USS Sennet SS-408 and the USS Seawolf SSN-575. To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
