Judith Licklider Obituary
September 2, 1946 - May 2, 2025 In loving memory of Judith Deemer Licklider
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Judith Deemer Licklider who departed this life on May 2nd, 2025 at the age of 78.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Judith was a lifelong learner and passionate advocate for education and community service. She graduated with high honors from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in English in 1968 and went on to earn her Masters degree in Education from Duquesne University in 1971.
She began her career teaching business and math classes at The Sawyer Schools. Her leadership and dedication quickly led to her promotion in 1973 to the position of Director of Education at Sawyers national headquarters in Los Angeles. In 1976 she joined IBM in its Office Products Division. In 1978 she married the love of her life , Rex Licklider, and chose to retire from IBM in 1980 to start a family.
A visionary entrepreneur, she founded Cyberlink Communications , a voice messaging company, and ran the company with distinction until its successful sale to a private investment group in 1988.
Beyond her professional achievements she was a tireless advocate for children with special needs. She served as an advisor to the The Los Angeles County Board of Education on special needs programs and was a committed board member and benefactor of the For Kids Only Foundation for over 20 years.
Her philanthropic spirit extended to healthcare and technology as she served on the board of trustees for the Saint Johns Hospital Foundation and the board of Radlink, a medical technology company.
Judy was a woman of many passions with a fierce , independent spirit,"live your own lives" was her reminder to her family to be bold, make your own choices and live life to its fullest. She was stylish, an avid golfer, a great cook and a connoisseur of travel, food and wine. Above all Judy cherished time spent with her friends and family.
She is survived by her husband Rex, her children Brad and Paige and Paige's husband Stoddart, her granddaughters Wally and Amelia, her stepson Matthew and his wife Sara and her brother Phil Demer and his wife Becky.
A celebration of life will be held at The Los Angeles Country Club on September 9th, 2025 where friends and family will gather to remember Judiths extraordinary life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Angeles Clinic or Saint Johns Hospital Foundation, causes close to Judith's heart.
