Julie Hilden

1968 - 2018

April 19, 1968 - March 17, 2018 Julie Hilden of Venice, CA, died on Saturday, March 17 in her home in the presence of her beloved husband and partner of 18 years Stephen Glass and family and friends. She was 49. Julie was born on April 19, 1968 in Teaneck, New Jersey, and grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. She received a B.A. from Harvard University in philosophy, a J.D. from Yale University, and an M.F.A. in creative writing from Cornell University. Julie clerked for Justice Stephen Breyer (First Circuit Court of Appeal) and Hon. Kimba Wood (Southern District of New York). She later practiced law at Williams and Connolly in Washington, D.C., where she focused on First Amendment litigation. In 2000, Julie moved to New York and, later, to Los Angeles, to focus on creative writing. Julie was the author of the memoir The Bad Daughter and the novels, 3 and The Film Student and Me. Julie was a radiant spirit. Along with a brilliant incisive mind, she was gifted with an extraordinary capacity for empathy, generosity and kindness. She will be terribly missed. A memorial service at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W. Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles will be held at 2pm on Sunday, March 25th, 2018.
