Julie Lavee

LAVEE, Julie Margalit December 8, 1922 - March 14, 2012 Julie was 89-years old when she died early Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. Gracious and vibrant, she was always interested and involved. She loved her family, her friends, and life. An accomplished artist, she was inspired by things she saw everyday and the surprises encountered in her worldly travels. Her professional life as an artist began in New York after receiving degrees from Brooklyn College and Cooper Union and continued on the West Coast. When asked what to look for in her abstract painting, she explained, "Abstract images are not meant to be subject to verbal descriptions. But the emotions and memories evoked on both sides make the communication possible." As an artist, her impressive works ranged in style from realistic to abstract, and included all media: oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, printmaking, and airbrush. Julie loved music, and played piano with skill and pleasure. She wrote very well and enjoyed reading. Friday night (Shabbat) dinners at her home were always delicious, and often included her friends and those of her two children. She was truly loving, elegant, mindful, gregarious, gracious, compassionate, involved, gentle, stalwart, and courageous. We love you and will always miss you. Julie is survived by her husband of 65-years, Yehuda, her children Oren (and Michelle), and Allen, grandchildren Aaron and Danielle (and Luke), and her sister Louise.
