Julius Bendat Obituary

October 26, 1923 - December 8, 2016 Julius Bendat was born in Chicago, and moved to Los Angeles with his parents when he was five. He attended San Pedro High School, where he was an outstanding student and all-city tennis player. He graduated from UC Berkeley with Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi honors in 1944, then proudly served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He went on to earn a Masters degree in physics from Caltech and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Southern Cal. He became a renowned mathematician, working for TRW, assisting NASA, and starting his own company, Measurement Analysis Corporation. He presented lectures and short courses all over the world. He also wrote books in seven different decades, spanning the years 1958 to 2010. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 69 years, Millie; his children Jim (Marilyn) and Cindy; his grandchildren Jeremy, Francine and Jason; and his brother Jack and sister Nette.

A great loss. Along with Allan Pierson, they literally wrote the book on modern digital signal processing. The world owes a lot to this man. RIP

I was a NASA Engineer/Statistician in the '60's. Dr Bendat taught me a lot about random analysis (vibration/acoustics) of rocket vehicles (Saturn booster). RIP DR BENDAT
