Kathryn Williams Obituary

January 3, 1967 - July 5, 2025 Kathryn Smith Williams passed away on Saturday, July 5th of Huntington's Disease. She passed peacefully with her beloved caregiver, Gloria Louis, by her side. Kathryn was born on January 3rd, 1967 in Pacific Palisades California. She lost her battle with Huntington's Disease after struggling for nearly two decades. She faced this incurable disease with strength, dignity and extraordinary determination. Kathryn attended Marlborough School, class of 1985, Hamilton College, class of 1989, and McGeorge School of Law, class of 1992. Kathryn was admitted to the California State Bar Association in December of 1992. Kathryn had an enormous interest in genealogy and did an extensive amount of research of her ancestors over the years, leaving a treasure trove of information behind for her family. Kathryn was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a patriot of the American Revolutionary War, something she was quite proud of. Kathryn was a member of the Junior League of Los Angeles and served on their Board of Directors from 1997-1998. The Junior League of Los Angeles held a special place in Kathryn's heart as she met her future husband through her now-sister-in-law, Elizabeth Shoemaker, who was also a Junior League member. Kathryn went on to travel to many Junior league conferences collecting a substantial number of Junior League cookbooks (over 50!) She enjoyed the service-oriented group and the other members who became her dear friends. Her love and curiosity of other cultures led her to extensive traveling which she enjoyed with her husband, creating great memories of many adventures. Kathryn was smart, curious and ambitious. She stepped away from her work as a Lawyer and became a Residential Realtor for the John Douglas Group in Brentwood California. Kathryn had her realtor license in both California and Nevada. After marrying her husband, Arnold F. Williams in 1993, Kathryn realized her dream of becoming a mother, taking extraordinary precautions to not pass on her Huntington's Disease gene to her daughter, Jo Williams in 2004. Kathryn could not have loved her daughter more. Kathryn loved her family and friends and gave them 100% of her time and energy until the devastating effects of Huntington's Disease took over. In the last 4 years of her life, she formed a beautiful and loving bond with her care giver, Gloria Louis, who created a warm, caring and safe world in which to live out her life. Kathryn had an infectious smile and an enormous heart and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Kathryn was pre-deceased by her father, David Smith and her sister Jennifer Smith Cowen. Kathryn's mother, Linda Newby Smith was by her daughter's side her entire life especially throughout her struggle with Huntington's Disease and outlived her daughter by a little over one week. Both women are now reunited and at peace. Kathryn is survived by her husband, Arnold F. Williams and their daughter Jo Williams. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service which will be held Friday, August 22nd at 11:00am at the Jonathan Beach Club in Santa Monica.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing I knew her at college. She was always a vivacious and lovely woman with an infectious laugh. I am so sorry to hear that left this world from Huntington's. My condolences to her family.
