Kenneth Malamed Obituary

February 22, 1943 - October 5, 2024 Kenneth David Malamed was born in Philadelphia on February 22, 1943 to Daniel and Reba Malamed. His brother Richard was born 3 years later. In 1946, the family moved to Los Angeles where his father practiced law. Ken attended UCSB before moving to UCLA prior to his junior year, graduating in 1964 with a business degree and then again in 1967 with a law degree. During this time he met and married Sandra Gail Cumings and their partnership endured for over 60 years until her passing earlier this year. They raised their two children, Laird and Elizabeth, in Los Angeles.
Ken loved sports and participated in tournament bridge, tennis, and bowling. However, his greatest love was baseball which he played in high school, and he remained an avid Dodger fan all his life.
Ken developed an interest at a young age in the stock market and investing. He turned this into a career by working for various financial firms and then founding and selling multiple financial advising businesses. Ken was passionate about helping his clients realize their dreams, and he developed a large clientele managing over two billion dollars in assets. Up until his death on October 5, he was still working full time doing what he loved.
Ken was a loving person with a good sense of humor and easily developed friendships, including many around the country and world as he and Sandi both enjoyed traveling and spending time with their extended family and friends. Many of these relationships have lasted for most of his life.
Ken is survived by his son Laird and his wife Rebecca, his daughter Elizabeth Malamed and her husband Eric Biederman, his brother Richard and his wife Cindy, his grandson Justin Silverman and his wife Rachel, his granddaughter Alex Biederman, his great-grandchildren Isaac Silverman and Ari Silverman, and his niece Jennifer Kenline and her husband Paul and their children Daniel, Riley and Max.
Contributions in his memory are welcomed, especially to the Jewish National Fund, and the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Ken was one of the kindest and smartest men I have ever met. I worked with Ken for approximately three years. It was my great fortune to have known Ken and the world is deprived of a genuinely kind and considerate man. He will always hold a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to his family

I hugged him in my office on his last visit just over a month ago. He had lost Sandi, and my dear wife of 40 years has serious health issues - we shared some tears and vowed to stay in closer touch - his death is so unexpected and profound.

I met Ken in 2016, and he became a trusted adviser for many years. While I have had the privilege of knowing intelligent people, caring people, sincere people and genuine people; Ken was intelligent, caring, sincere and genuine. He will be terribly missed - God Bless him always - Ed Nigro

Deeply moved that I had a chance to talk with Ken when he called to find out my outcome after an illness. He was in the Malamed/Family line of loyal and loving fathers and brothers. Life blessed him with happiness and a quick ending to his abundant life.
