Lawrence Starr Obituary

January 8, 1920 - December 30, 2016 "Larry," as he was known to his family, friends, and community, passed from heart complications at St. Johns Health Center in Santa Monica, CA, just one week shy of his 97th birthday. A beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Larry was born in New Jersey but was raised in France and Germany. He returned to the United States at 19 as World War II escalated. At 21, Larry met the love of his life, Adele Seltzer, at the Ethical Cultural Society of New York. In 1941, the two married. He then served in World War II as a French/English interpreter, stationed in Casablanca, Rabat and other parts of North Africa for 17 months. Post-war, the two lived in New York, at which time he completed his degree from New York University. Sons William and Philip were born in New York. After spending a vacation in California, Larry and his beloved wife decided to move to Los Angeles. Here he completed his Master's program at USC and started a successful CPA firm near his home in Los Angeles. Sons Robert and Andrew and daughter Margo were born in Los Angeles. He was an avid golfer and a long-standing Lions Club member. He enjoyed good music, delicious food, and making everyone in the room laugh. He was truly kind, warm and witty. All that had the honor of knowing him will miss him. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Adele, his son William, and his sister Gloria, and is survived by his children Philip, Robert, Andrew and Margo (Scoble), six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and niece Barbara Norton. Funeral service will be Friday, January 6th at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068.
