Lester G. Ostrov

1942 - 2021

Passed away on May 5, 2021 at his home in Los Angeles, at the age of 78. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and wit. Lester was predeceased by l'amour de sa vie--his wife, Dini Ostrov. Born in Duluth, MN in 1942, Lester moved to Los Angeles during high school. He received his BA in 1964 from UCLA, where he served as editor of the Daily Bruin, and then went on to graduate from law school there two years later. He practiced law for many years as a partner at Fogel, Feldman, Ostrov, Ringler and Klevens, before eventually branching out on his own. He specialized in labor and employment relations law, representing the Los Angeles County and City Firefighters, the LA Newspaper Guild, PATCO, and various public and service unions. Lester and Dini were Francophiles who lived for their annual, and sometimes biannual, trips to Paris, breakfasting at their favorite café, strolling the streets of the Left Bank peoplewatching and looking for pieces of art. Back home in Los Angeles, they loved staying connected with their alma mater, UCLA, following the sports teams and engaging in philanthropy. Lester loved to tell a good shaggy dog story or joke, with a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he made his way ever-so-slowly to the punch line. His warm humor and wit will be greatly missed.Lester is survived by his son, Kevin; his daughter, Cindy Cunningham; and his three grandchildren, Arianna, Laila, and Bijan Zoghi. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 6th at 11am at the IAFF Local 1014 headquarters at 3460 Fletcher Avenue, El Monte to celebrate Lester's life.
