Sister Louis Marie Hanrahan

August 12, 1934 - October 22, 2025 HANRAHAN, Sister Louis Marie, a cherished member of the Daughters of Mary and Joseph, passed away peacefully on October 22, at Marian Residence, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Born on August 12, 1934, in Ballybunion, County Kerry, Ireland, she was one of seven children. She was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Nora (Foley) Hanrahan and all her siblings: Kathleen (who died in infancy), Breda Patterson, Michael Hanrahan, Don Hanrahan, Mary Burke, and Peggy Browne.
Sister professed her vows as a Daughter of Mary and Joseph in 1954, dedicating her life to education. She taught in St. Augustine School, Culver City; Our Lady of Peace, Sepulveda; St. Paul the Apostle, Westwood; and St. Joseph High School, Santa Maria. In 1981 Sister answered a call to missionary work in Cameroon, Africa where she ministered for 26 years with heartfelt compassion and a quiet strength, rooted in her deep faith. Upon returning to California she volunteered in Carol's Kitchen, Banning, California, continuing her lifelong mission of care and presence.
In 2014 Sister Louis Marie retired to Marian Residence, Rancho Palos Verdes, where she remained an active and prayerful member of her religious community. The Daughters of Mary and Joseph extend their deepest gratitude to the Sisters and staff of Marian Residence and to Providence Hospice for their compassionate care of Sister Louis Marie.
Sister will be deeply missed by her DMJ sisters, her loving sister-in-law Hannah Hanrahan, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many friends, all of whom were touched by her genuine warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit. Mass of Christian Burial November 14th, 11:00 am Mortuary Chapel, Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City.
