This is a revised statement. I met Lucas in May of 1972 in Silver Spring, Maryland. He had just arrived in that State to work at the Goddard Space Center. We became friends immediately. During the early 1970's Lucas and I together engaged in Social Action events of interest to us. During the course of the past 42 years Lucas was always a faithful correspondent with me. He introduced me to the music of Anton Bruckner. We shared a mutual love of the Richard Strauss "Alpine Symphony". Lucas would often try to seek me out on the East Coast for visits together. Likewise, when Lucas lived in Washington D.C., Boston and Pasadena I would try to seek him out. Lucas had a way about him which was very endearing to me. He always wanted to know about my life and work and would listen intently. Lucas came to many of my jobs during my time since 1974 in Human Services work. He was so very kind, thoughtful and generous to me. I recall a very special visit in Montclair, N.J. with Lucas, his Mom, his Grandmother and Aunt Fran Reynolds. Lucas also visited with my late Parents; as well, family members. We shared a mutual love of Cape Cod. I consider Lucas as being on my short list of best friends. He was certainly a lifelong friend. I am so sorry that he had to leave us all so prematurely. I will miss Lucas Willem Kamp for the remainder of my time in this life.

I met Lucas in 1977 when he was a professor at Boston University in the Astronomy
Department, and I was an incoming freshman. In those early days I called him
Dr. Kamp! I found him to be an understated and self-effacing individual. I
recall his having written his own code to perform spectral analysis of
IUE data on a DECwriter terminal. This was definitely not any easy task.
He was a good influence and teacher on this impressionable young woman in
Astronomy. He was my professor, a companion in many Dungeons and Dragons
adventures, and a fellow cat lover. I think about Lucas and those days at BU
with a smile. I am sincerely sorry that Lucas has passed away much too soon.

I had the pleasure of knowing Lucas through an Amnesty International group that we were a part of. He was a kind man, very active for social justice, and ultimately extremely brilliant. He will indeed be missed.
