Lyman Mitchell Evans

October 13, 1941 - September 28, 2022 Lyman Mitchell (Mike) Evans, 80, passed away unexpectedly in Cambria on September 28. He died as he lived: decisively, close to family, and in the place he loved most.
Mike was born in Los Angeles on October 13, 1941, to Robert Eggleston and Noriene Jamison Evans, the youngest of three siblings. He attended John Muir High School, Pasadena City College, and California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. A life-long learner, he attended the Stanford University Graduate School Executive Business Leadership Program in 1991.
Mike worked for Boeing Aerospace in Seattle 1964-66; Lockheed Aircraft, Burbank 1966-67; GE Power Generation, Fitchburg, MA, 1967-68; and Lockheed Martin in Burbank and Palmdale from 1968-1996. At Skunk Works, he helped develop many aircraft, including the F-35 Lightning II, V/STOL, and the F-117 Nighthawk.
Mike loved to remodel, renovating his residence in Woodland Hills, which was featured in The Los Angeles Times Home magazine in December 1980. In retirement, he added unique updates to his Cambria home, building The Studio and The Bunkhouse. Mike also helped family members by remodeling their homes - with functional and savvy designs. He and his wife Sharon traveled frequently, sharing their globe-trotting adventures with their children and grandchildren.
Mike will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon Jordan-Evans; sons Matthew Evans and Travis Earl; daughters Kellie Evans and Shelby Earl; sons-in-law Carl Addicott and Seamus Troy; daughters-in-law Laura Earl and Malie Tsurunaga; grandchildren Emma Earl, Mackenzie Earl, Duncan Addicott, Isaac Earl, Jadyn Addicott, and Senan Troy; brother Robert Evans; and sister Charlotte Pranger.
