Margaret Daily Obituary
Daily, Margaret Mary Martin (91) daughter and wife of Ventura county pioneers, died December 24, 2002 at home with her family in Camarillo.
Margaret Daily's father was a prominent Los Angeles architect Albert Carey Martin and her mother was Carolyn Borchard Martin, daughter of a Ventura County pioneering family. Albert Martin designed the Ventura County Courthouse (now San Buenaventura City Hall) on Poli Street, St. Mary Magdalen Chapel and the original buildings at Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai. She was married 43 years to Milton Francis Daily, a pioneer in Ventura County ranching and agriculture, who later founded M.F. Daily Investment Company, a real estate development company. Margaret continued to take an active role in the company after her husband's death in 1975. Raised in Los Angeles, Margaret, affectionately known as Marge, was educated at Romona Convent High School in Alhambra and attended the University of Southern California, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was active in many civic, social and charitable organizations, including Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre, Las Potronas Auxiliary of Assistance League of Ventura County and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camarillo. Marge traveled the world, often including her children and grandchildren on trips. One of her favorite vacation sites was the Yosemite Mountain Ranch, where she enjoyed many outings with her family. She was an avid golfer and loved playing bridge, entertaining, gardening and the piano. She had a great sense of color and design and loved her Camarillo home, which she and Milton built in 1955. She is survived by three children: Carolyn Margaret Menne (John) of Somis; Milton Francis Daily, Jr. (Heather) of Camarillo; and Margaret Mary Given (Dr. John Given) of Encino. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: John Daily Menne (Judy) of Pasadena; Lynne Marie Arizmendi (Mark) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Martin Charles Menne (Rebecca) of San Jose; Gregory Milton Daily (Kathleen) of Camarillo; Scott Wade Daily of Camarillo; Catherine Heather Daily of San Francisco; Jennifer Therese Cooper (Doug) of Sherman Oaks; Brian Daily Given of San Francisco; and Peter William Given of Encino. Brothers: Albert Carey Martin, Jr. and John Edward Martin; sister, Lucille Rogers. Margaret was preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn Novak and Evelyn Purcell.
