Marilyn Garber Obituary

February 17, 1930 - March 5, 2023 Marilyn Garber, treasured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to so many, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Florence and Albert Rubin. She graduated high school at 16 and attended Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans before transferring to UCLA, where she graduated in 1950 remaining a Bruin for life.

Marilyn was married to Robert (Bob) Garber for 48 years and they had two children; daughter Sharon Felder (deceased) and son, Scott Garber.

Marilyn and Bob lived in Seattle after marriage where they met lifelong friends. They returned to Los Angeles in 1957 to raise their children and build their community. Marilyn was a long-time member of Leo Baeck Temple.

Known for her incredible sense of humor and her passion for life, Marilyn loved to travel, play tennis, mahjong and support the arts. Marilyn enjoyed vodka and sweets and was always the life of the party. Her gregarious personality was contagious to everyone she met. "GG," as she was lovingly named by her great grandchildren, took her greatest pride in her growing family.

Marilyn is survived by her son Scott Garber (Amy), son-in-law Jim Felder, grandchildren Matthew Felder (Sara), Andrew Felder (Lauren), Frannie Hudson (Jordan), Ryan Garber (Melanie), Jake Garber and Allie Garber, and great-grandchildren Lillie, Sophie and Robbie Felder, Sam, Gabe and Lucy Felder, Shane and Lola Hudson and Brynn Garber.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 8, 2023 at 2PM at Hillside Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to:

Dr. Garber was an awesome professor when I was a student at her History class at Cal State Dominguez Hills. She opened my eyes to look at both sides of a story to help me make an informed decision. I wish I was with her during her final years. May God bless her family as she´s with the Lord

Thinking of the family and sending love to all. Marilyn was a matriach to many families. She had a lust for life and so much love in her heart. A role model for all who knew her. So much packed into a small person - it was an honor to know Marilyn.
