Mark Weitz Obituary

March 20, 1960 - August 8, 2018 Mark J. Weitz died in an accident on August 8, 2018. Born in Los Angeles, he was the son of Ted Weitz of Los Angeles and the late Celine (Cookie) Mintz. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley. His wife, Andrea Delaney Weitz, died with him. After graduating from Taft High School in 1978, he attended the University of Washington and UCLA and then started a career in the auction and liquidation business after attending the Missouri Auction School. Mark then became a professional auctioneer with an expertise in business and industrial asset valuations and sales. The majority of his career was spent with Great American Group. Most recently, he was President/Managing Partner of CA Global Partners. His career took him all over the world. A beloved husband and father, Mark had a wonderful family life having settled in Encino; family vacations were a particular passion as were all sports-but most especially UCLA Bruins teams and all of the Los Angeles professional teams. In addition to his father, Mark is survived by his daughters Channing and Daelyn Weitz, whom he adored. He is also survived by his stepfather, Gary Mintz, to whom he was particularly close. Mark leaves behind his sister, Dana Gumaer (Andy Gumaer), and brothers Ron Mintz (Jessica Cahen) and Rusty Mintz (Lori Nipp), as well as nephews Brandon and Chase Gumaer and nieces Chelsea Gumaer and Sophie Mintz; another brother, Josh Weitz, predeceased him. Other bereaved relatives include his aunts and uncles, Sunnie Singer and Larry Lichenstein; Michael Luftman; and Marilyn and Cliff Weitz; and several cousins. Mark is also survived by his mother-in-law, Maria Delaney and sister-in-law, Maureen Delaney. Additionally, Mark leaves behind a wide group of friends, many of whom he has been close to since his school days. Everyone will miss him terribly. Funeral services will be held at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills on Wednesday, August 22nd at 2:30pm.

Mark was a cherished business mentor to me. Having worked decades with my dad on 100's of deals, I was taught that Mark had the highest values and integrity. When we started doing work he always told me funny stories about my old man and gave me positive words of wisdom on every call. He spoke so adoringly of his wife and daughters. We had a long call a few weeks ago and his positive energy left a smile on my face as usual. Our family will miss him and pray that he may rest in peace.

Although I am glad to find this public resource for this wonderful recognition of Mark Weitz, as well as the very supportive reader comments on a life well-lived, it is also so sad to weigh in on the loss of a friend and winning leader in my auction world. Having conducted 1000s of live auctions in various parts of America over 35 years , I have had the privilege to meet and work with and know the best....and Mark was truly one of the best ever, a legend, and , like the others shared, a true pro who treated everyone.....and me....fair--, a real treasure in this world today. His impact on my auction career and the fun and biz we had together in the GreatAmerican spirit will stay with me forever. The industry has lost a pillar and a uniquely creative, precious man that cannot be replaced. He treated his peers and the public, both the high and the common, with equal respect, and with his engaging personality; a true pleasure to auctioneer with on the 'block'! Miss him. Oh, that the good Lord rests his and Andrea's souls, and that we remember and carry on his legacy, indeed! PTL/SurferJoeTheAuctioneer.

I am totally shocked. They were always kind and dedicated to their family. I worked with Mark for many years and he was a very special person. I am saddened by what has happened. My thoughts and prayers are with his Channing and Daelyn and the rest of the Weitz family. The world has lost a truly special couple. George & Brigitte Spooner

My brother's brother-in-law, and like a brother to me. I always looked forward to seeing him on my annual visits to L.A.. Friendly, competing uncles. He was a handsome, fun-loving, smooth character. His quick wit and strong voice served him well, as the most naturally talented auctioneer I have ever heard. Mark was a true gem who will be missed dearly by many, but remembered indelibly by all who knew him. RIP bro.
