Martin Berens Obituary

Berens, Martin
Longtime Los Angeles resident, businessman, and beloved family man Martin Berens died Sunday. He was 90. Born in Vancouver in 1913 to a family of Russian Jews, he spent his childhood in San Francisco, moving to Los Angeles in the 1920s. His careers were multifaceted; from traveling salesman to founder of Martin Berens Tall Fashions for women. In the 1970s, he opened Nickelodeon, the first video rental store in Los Angeles, and the "Heaven" chain of stores. He was involved with philanthropic groups throughout his life. He is survived by Edith; his wife of 67 years, sons Russell and Stephen, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services to be held Wed., August 20, at 11 AM Hillside Memorial Park.
