Martin Edward Weekes

1933 - 2016

June 6, 1933 - November 26, 2016 Martin Weekes, who was proudly of Jamaican and Barbadian descent, was born in New York in 1933 (at the tail end of the Harlem Renaissance) to proud parents Wilfred and Alneta "Nettie" Katora Weekes. Martin resided most of his adult life in Los Angeles, California, where he died at the age of 83. He served as the first Black Deputy County Counsel, and later as the first Black Division Chief County Counsel, in the Los Angeles County Counsel's history. Martin was a long-time parishioner and choir member at Episcopal Church of the Advent in Los Angeles. Martin is survived by his devoted wife of more than 30 years, Diana Weekes, his loving daughters Shelli, Dawn, Nicole and Cheryl; his appreciative sons-in-law Myron and Clement; his precious grandchildren Chance, Chase, Ciera, Charissa and Danielle; his adorable great-granddaughter Jaidynn; his siblings Robbie and Joy; and countless loving and appreciative friends and family members. A memorial service will be held in Los Angeles early next year. For those who wish to make memorial contributions, the family requests that they be made in his name to City of Hope.
