Melinda Simon Obituary
Born November 7, 1947 in Covina, Ca., her parents were first generation Swedish with cows and sheep included in the family. Wherever she was, she created loving, lasting relationships beginning at Covina High school from 1961 to 1965. Working with her brother at Andek, she was the Dune Buggy Girl and the girl with the Krazy Dazies. Spending a lot of time at the beach was a must. In 1968 she met and married Ted and they went into the Navy for a while in El Segundo. She lived in Alhambra and South Pasadena where she worked for C.F. Braun and raising a family began. During elections she was a precinct officer and ran a polling place out of the house. Ski trips to the family cabin in Big Bear were also a big part of her life, followed by group trips to Mammoth Mountain and Utah. As the family began to grow, a move to Dana Point and the ocean was to be paramount in her life. Throughout her life she would always welcome a quick drive down the breakwater at Doheny Beach. As the kids got bigger, she became the Cub Scout Den Mother and Ted was the Scoutmaster. With her degree from El Camino College in secretarial science, she did free-lance secretarial work and eventually landed a job at The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel, later at The Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach and The Dana Point Yacht Club. While in semi-retirement, she enjoyed working at the Ocean Institute. After the passing of her mother, she began to travel to Sweden to delve into family ties and create extensive family albums. She competed in outrigger canoe races. She loved traveling to Bali, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Hawaii. Her choice of music: The Beatles, Bob Marley, Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet. A's Burger was her favorite lunch spot. She enjoyed her friends and family, and cherished the time she had with her grandchildren.
Melinda is survived by her husband Ted, sons Matt and Brett, daughter-in-law Adela, and grandchildren Clara and Casper.
