Michael Grohowski Obituary

GROHOWSKI, Michael Anthony 95 «, died November 25, 2008 in North Hills. He lived in Michigan (Dearborn Heights and Canton) for 91 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Camille. He was the loving father of Michelle (Rick) Grohowski-Ray of Chatsworth, Camille (Gary) Atkinson of Canton, MI, and Andrew of Milford, MI. He was the adored "Pa" of Nicole Ray and Grandpa of Nathan Atkinson. All his life, Mike was prayerfully devoted to Our Lord, the Blessed Mother, and to his Catholic faith. He was a WWII veteran who was part of the D-Day Invasion in Normandy. Many people did not know that he lost his right eye in the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart, EAME Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars, and Croix De Guerre with Palm. Michelle wishes to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens of Northridge and the Sepulveda VA for the compassionate and kind care given to her father the past four years, especially Ellen Cabico. Memorial gifts suggested for Mass intentions or to Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org).

I'm so sorry to hear (thru the Daily News)that Michael has left us. He wasn't with us long at the VA, but I learned to admire and respect his dignity, his reserve, and his deep and obvious love for his Catholic religion. And his scorn for time-wasting Bingo. He has a loving, caring family, and they have my deep sympathy for the passing of their father and grandfather.
