I worked for Hess's in Allentown as a "trainee", then, later, as a buyer from 1978 - 1982. One of the highlights was meeting Francois Gilot because Muriel Berman brought her into the art gallery at Hess's. They were friends. Mrs. Berman was a great woman, a treasured presence at Hess's. I know she passed years ago, but she was unforgettable, and I wanted to add my memory.

To Nancy, Nina and Steve,
Your mother was the first cousin of my mother, Sylvia Laufe Nathan. I had the opportunity to hang out with both your parents in Allentown and Philadelphia when they came for family events. Your mother once told me her favorite opera was "Tosca." And that grandslam aria of Madama Floria Tosca would be ever right for your mother: "Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore."
Some two years ago, after my father passed away, I spent a sparkling afternoon with Muriel at Nancy's house. We caught up, rather she caught me up, on family history. We also discovered we had a mutual contact at the Phila. Museum of Art. I am so glad I had the opportunity to shooze and connect with a lady who was truly a class act - - - and a relative!
Nancy, please call me or e-mail at a future time when you regroup back here in LA.
My warmest thoughts to the Berman family.

We would like to tell Muriel's family what a lovely person she was and a good friend. She was so much help with the Allentown Symphony and along with your father, gave very generously to its support through the years. I enjoyed working with her and regret that it will be impossible to do so now. She will not be forgotten but held in our hearts.
