Murray Odel

January 20, 1908 - December 1, 2014 Murray Odel, 106, beloved father, uncle, and grandparent, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Murray's parents, Sol and Fanny Oder, immigrated to London from Vilna, Russia, around the turn of the century. He was born 1908 in White Chappell, a district in East London, England; attended school and worked before emigration to New York in 1928. Murray moved on to California, and married the love of his life, Jenny Blossom Berman, in 1934. Murray and Jenny had a beautiful life together for 71 years until her death in 2005. Murray spent his remaining years living in his Tarzana condo attended by his family and devoted care takers Rose and Maria. Murray worked 30+ years as a theater manager for the Berman Brother's Aladdin Theaters, a chain of independent neighborhood movie houses and drive-ins in Los Angeles. He was an avid collector of stamps, coins, baseball cards, and other memorabilia; an avid reader and crossword solver; a traveller and letter writer; and maintained an encyclopedic memory for movies and actors until he was well past the age of 90. He loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune nightly, and could often astound everyone with a tricky or impossible solution to a Wheel puzzle! He was kind, loving, generous, and humorous; a faithful and loving husband and father; a born storyteller; and a man who toasted the Queen, picked up the bill, and always said, "Boy, you guys sure can eat" at every single family dinner for 70 years. At his last 2014 Thanksgiving dinner, he toasted "I'm surrounded by everyone who loves me, and everyone I love". Murray was proceeded in death by beloved wife Jenny Odel, and survived by sons Larry (Gail), Franklin (Sandy), and Edward (Julie); grandchildren: Leah Paley (Michole), Ahron Odel (Soroh), Scott Odel, Jason Argabrite, great-grandchildren: Yossi (A"H), Goldie, Shauly, Chanie, Srulie, Shoshana, Sheindy, Chanie O., Chaya, Nechama, Esti, Gitty, Yoni, Forrest; and great-great-grandchildren: Joey and Rikki. He leaves a legacy of love, 1000s of family antidotes, and legions of family and friends who loved him. All said, a fine life, lived long and full.
