Nassar Waian Obituary

WAIAN, Nassar S. Born April 1, 1920 to Wedder Jamel and Sam Waian, he fell asleep to Christ our Lord and Savior, at home with his family close by, on March 15, 2008. He was one of ten children; survived by only Joe Waian, Margaret Deebo, Sophie Beard, Jeannette Gennaway and Josephine Thomas. Survived also by son, Steve; daughter, Kathy Rosas (Al); and grandchildren, Ryan (Wilcox) and Alexis (Rosas). He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alice (2005); and sons Eddy and Paul (1977). He was a World War II veteran of the Pacific theater, a Free Mason and a Shriner. With only a high school education, he became a lab technician for Hughes Aircraft and TRW. Working in the aerospace industry for 38 years, he became expert in circuit board manufacturing for many satellites and was awarded highest top-secret clearances because of his expertise and character. Also a founding member of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral for 62 years and was ordained to the Sub-Diaconate in 1950 and was caretaker for the Church and Hall for 29 years. Funeral services: Sunday, March 23, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, 2300 W. Third St., L.A., CA 90057. Graveside Services: Monday, March 24, 2008, 11:00 a.m., Forest Lawn-Glendale. Spiritual bouquets may be made in his name to St. Nicholas Cathedral in lieu of flowers.
