Norbert David Larky

1927 - 2018

December 20, 1927 - August 20, 2018 N. David Larky passed away August 20, 2018 in Santa Monica, CA, surrounded by his wife of 58 years and his two children. He was the son of Russian immigrants who settled in New Jersey and instilled a passion for education, adventure, learning, America and Judaism. He earned his engineering and electronics degrees from Lehigh University and his master's from Princeton University. Dave had a distinguished career with 13 patents to his name, including the color television and the color test pattern. Dave cared about people. He believed it is important to nurture young talent and to create opportunities for them to succeed. In his 80s he mentored undergraduate students at Harvey Mudd University. He was a private pilot who donated his time flying patients for Angel Flight. He worked on satellite technology, supported various exhibitions at the Skirball Cultural Center, was a million-miler with United Airlines and, together with his wife Sue, explored every continent, building lifelong friendships along the way. Dave loved backpacking, skiing and the outdoors. But most importantly, he loved his family fiercely. He was a rock star.
