Patrick Lyons DeYoung

1926 - 2016

August 2, 1926 - November 11, 2016 On the evening of Veteran's Day, we lost our beloved Patrick to complications following surgery. He lived each of his 90 years with unparalleled gusto, a huge heart, constant curiosity, few complaints, and wholly devoted to his family. He was truly loved and will be missed by all. Beginning in his birthplace of Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1926, Patrick lived all over the world. He lived with his grandparents for a time in Hawaii, sold airplanes in Mexico, South America and Washington DC, worked for the Marshall Plan in Paris, served on numerous boards in Santa Barbara, and regularly escaped to his family's home in Big Sur. He graduated from Canoga Park High School, then Stanford University after spending a year in the Navy where he was unable to serve due to poor eyesight. He spend the last twenty years married to his beloved wife Marilyn (Missy) Chandler DeYoung and living in Santa Barbara, where he could be spotted around town in his white Firebird convertible, always looking dapper in a hat and sport coat. He is survived by his wife Missy and many children, stepchildren and grandchildren. His children are Danny and Celia DeYoung, Gloria DeYoung, Linda DeYoung and Pat and Stephanie DeYoung. His stepchildren are Torrey Ann, Athena and Paget Mitchell, Harry Chandler, Cathleen and Terry Eckhardt, Michael and Sheryl Chandler and Carolyn Chandler. His grandchildren are Jordan Titzman, Spencer Titzman, Emma DeYoung Stoddard, Alexandra Ghinn, Finnoula Ghinn and Cordelia DeYoung. He has 15 Chandler step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church in Montecito at 4:30 pm on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
