Patrick Flanagan Obituary

Flanagan, Patrick M. March 17, 1923 - January 26, 2003
Pat Flanagan is dead. The Kansas youth, the Illinois Farm Boy, the Naval Warrior, the Los Angeles Police Officer, the College Professor, Genealogist and Trout Fisherman rests with his Fathers. He left this life with no regrets, only thanks for the chance given him by Almighty God and his darling parents to play the game. It was a great game and since life was the game there is no loser. He leaves his beloved wife of almost 53 years, Lois Rondeau, and his loving children, Kathleen Ann, Mary Bridget, Patrick Michael, and Terrence Martin. Five grandsons, James, Casey, Daniel, Matthew and Nicholas, and one great-grandson, Blake, all Flanagans. He was predeceased by his parents Martin and Adeline (Dilley) Flanagan, four sisters; Katherine (Breen), Julia (William Livingston), Mary (Drury), and Margaret Flanagan and a brother, James. Four sisters survive him: Elizabeth Doyle, Rose Thomas, Nell Wallach (Warren) and Joann Moriarity (Ted). Many, many nephews, nieces, and cousins also survive. Patrick was descended on his mother's side from Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and on his Father's side from Irish who fled Ireland to spite the British and survive the Potato Famine of the 1840's. He was a member of the Former Los Angeles Police Department Associates, The Southern California Genealogical Society and numerous other genealogical societies. He was a Compatriot of the Sons of the America Revolution and member of the Disabled American Veterans. After many adventures in life, he joyously goes on this the greatest adventure of all. Wish him bon voyage. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rita's Catholic Church, Sierra Madre, on Friday, Jan. 31, at 11:00 A.M. Interment following at the Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Los Angeles Catholic Workers or The Southern California Genealogical Society. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena

The Earth lost a great son

James Thomas

Living in Illinois gave me little opprotunity to visit my Uncle Patrick. The rich stories that were told to me by Aunt Peg and Aunt Judy, along with my mom Rose, made me feel that you were much closer. You will be missed.

Uncle Pat, you were a man who will be rembered for many generations to come. Even though We did not spend a great deal of time together, I still felt very close to you. I always looked up to you for the many great things you have acomplished in your lifetime. The world is now a bit more lonely since you have left us. Please know that You will always be in my heart, and I will never forget the few times we did spend time together. I love and miss you very much, your nephew Casey

I recall with fondness and love my Uncle Pat, whom I have known for my entire life. He, my Aunt Lois, and their family have always been there for me and my son. I send out my love and prayers for them all... Uncle Pat loved Golden Retrievers and watching all sports. I used to tease him that he could name the starting line up for the women's Lacrosse team at Ratcliff from 1968. He probably could, he remembered everything. Here's to you, Uncle Pat, I love you dearly. My heart is heavy, though I am blessed for having spent my whole life knowing you.
