When I knew Paul he went by his middle name, Reid.
I was 8 years old and he was seven. Thru the year Reid became the brother I never had. We went to school together, we played together, we were in band together, we dated together, and yes, we even got into trouble together.
I am going to miss Reid badly. He has always been my best friend. I think I will miss our reminiscing most of all.
I will see you in the big band-room upstairs Reid. Till we meet again.

Reid and I had been friends nearly 20 years. He and I sang in the choir at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Santa Monica, and played in a brass quartet at the church. I had been a member of the Emeritus Band in Santa Monica, and invited Reid to join. We always called him Reid since my name is also Paul, and he felt it would be less confusing. He was a good friend and will be missed by all. He is now blessed to be with the Lord in his eternal home. So long, but not goodbye, my friend.

Reid had a beautiful baritone singing voice. He and my mother, Evelyn Martin, entertained along with the RSVP singers many Friday afternoons for several years at various assisted living homes in the West Los Angeles and Culver City area. One of his favorite songs to sing was "Harbor Lights" and he loved doing sound effects during our group numbers. I also attended some of his concerts with the Santa Monica Emeritus Band, when they performed at the Broad Theatre.
Reid was very generous and friendly and I grew very close to him during his 8 year relationship with my mother, and he thought of my daughter Julianne as his granddaughter. He always had funny stories to tell and shared his love of big band music with us. He also encouraged both my mother and I with our piano playing, by giving us Piano songbooks of music from the 1920s to 1950s.
I will miss him tremendously.
