Rea Schneider Obituary

SCHNEIDER, Rea M. M.D. (1914-2006) Dr. Rea Schneider, internist and pulmonary specialist, passed away April 10 from natural causes. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Dr. Schneider emigrated to the United States with her family in 1920. She attended UCLA, UC Berkeley and UCSF where she received her M.D.
Dr. Schneider interned at Los Angeles County Hospital. She spent most of her fifty-year career at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she served as Chief of Medicine, the first woman to occupy that position. Dr. Schneider was also a clinical professor at USC School of Medicine. Dr. Schneider was married for sixty-five years to Maurice Schneider, anesthesiologist, who pre-deceased her one year ago. Dr. Schneider is survived by her children, Laura Feit (Peter) and Andrew Schneider (Diane Frolov), her grandson Joseph, her niece Roberta Snyder, her cousins John Movitt and Ada Wapniarski, and her sister-in-law Frieda Weisberg. A memorial services will be held Saturday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m., at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood, CA. 90038. (323) 469-1181.
