Robert Hoffman Obituary
HOFFMAN, Robert Chesebro Bob was born on September 2, 1923 in Oakland, California, the fourth son of Paul and Dorothy Hoffman. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers Hallock, Peter, and Donald. He died on October 29, 2008 in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He graduated from high school from Governor Dummer Academy in Massachusetts in 1941 and briefly attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio prior to joining the United States Air Force in 1942. He served three years in the Air Force during WWII and an additional year when recalled during the Korean conflict. With the help of the GI Bill he graduated from UCLA with a degree in engineering in 1950. He joined Consolidated Electrodynamics Corp. in Pasadena, California soon thereafter and worked there for 20 years. In the early seventies he formed the R.C. Hoffman Co., Inc., an engineering manufacturer's representative company which was very successful. He sold the company to his employees in 1988 and retired to Los Osos, California. When his three daughters all ended up in Oregon Bob and Jean moved to Lake Oswego to be closer to them. He and Jean selected to join the retirement community at Mary's Woods in 2005. He was very happy at Mary's Woods and an active member of that community.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Cline Hoffman and their three daughters, twins Carol Goss (Robert L.) and Diana Hoffman of Lake Oswego and Joan Hoffman of Beaverton, and his two grandchildren, Brian and Lauren Goss. He is also survived by his brother, Lathrop Hoffman (Dorothy Anne Cleary) of Sierra Madre, California, his two sisters, Barbara Henry (Richard V.) of Pasadena and Kiriki de Diego Metzo of New York, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a truly good person. He had an incisive mind, a great sense of humor, and a solid sense of family values. He was a cherished father, husband, brother and friend. He will be missed! There was a memorial service held at Mary's Woods on November 14, 2008. Remembrances in his name may be sent to the Mary's Woods Resident Fund, P.O. Box 411, Maryhurst, OR 97036.
