RoseMarie DeGiorgio Obituary
September 22, 1927 - February 9, 2021 RoseMarie DeGiorgio passed away peacefully February 9, 2021 after a heroic battle with Coronavirus at the age of 93.RoseMarie was born to Frank and Rose Barone Meccia on September 22, 1927 in an Italian Catholic neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. Her grandparents were immigrants from Ricigliano, a small mountain town in southern Italy. RoseMarie was the third of five children, and was watched over by her brothers Joseph, Danny, Neil, and Frank. Together they grew up in the tight-knit Chicago community built around the Santa Maria Incoronata Church. In 1947 she married Dr. Eugene DeGiorgio, and together they welcomed four children into the world - Rose, Nicholas, Eugene, and Christopher. She and her family moved to Encino, California in 1953, where she was welcomed by Rocky and Marie Soldato, Jean Agelson, Dorothy Long, and Ann Marie and Miriam Nagel, among many other trusted friends. She was joined in California by her brother Frank, who raised his own family alongside hers.RoseMarie devoted her life to nurturing the people around her. She earned an RN from Valley College and a BSN from CSU Northridge, and served as school nurse at the Van Nuys, Glassel Park, and McClay Street elementary schools. She loved children and served as a trusted confidant and advocate. Children would feign stomach aches to come, talk with her, and be strengthened by her kindness. She was active at Our Lady of Grace Parish, St. Paul the Apostle, and St. Cyril's of Jerusalem where she and her daughter Rose taught baptism classes and showered expecting parents with their joy.RoseMarie knew many sorrows in her life, chief among them the death of her beloved son Nick and his wife Linda. Through it all, her faith, cheerfulness, and love never wavered. Together she and her daughter Rose built a beautiful home. Friends and family who were in need would come to live with her, and she welcomed every one without hesitation. Every Sunday RoseMarie hosted dinner for her entire extended family and friends. The conversation began just after 2:00 and continued uninterrupted until long after dark. Grandchildren, nephews, and nieces all grew up on her delicious Italian meals, including her famous meatballs, pasta, and red sauce. RoseMarie loved St. Joseph and her blessed mother Mary, and had a special devotion to St. Anne and Padre Pio. She prayed every day for her beloved family and friends. Throughout her life she maintained the closest of bonds with her brothers Joseph, Danny, Neil and Frank - as well as the many cousins, aunts, and uncles she loved - through visit, letter, phone, and prayer. Now she watches over us from heaven, and her prayers continue to work miracles for everyone she loves.RoseMarie is survived by her children - Rose, Eugene and his wife Christi, and Christopher and his wife Judy - by her devoted brother Frank, by her grandchildren Andrew, Annie, Luke, Chloe and Jade, and by her beloved nieces and nephews. A friend of God, her life of goodness and kindness will always be remembered by the countless people whose lives she touched.
