I know Scott has been gone a while now. I just wanted to share that he sponsored me early in sobriety after my sponsor died. I am 39 years sober now and will always be grateful for the example and kindness showed me back in my very early days of sobriety. He made a difference and the world was made better for knowing him.

Scott you were the first circuit speaker I saw in my first year at the gratitude round up June 1993. Forever memorable and will always be grateful for finding your talks on youtube.

Scott, your spirit lives on forever with the message you so freely shared. Your speaker tapes are helping addicts/alcoholics to this day, including this one ;-). How special this program of now 90 years is. Whether Bill and Dr. Bob could foresee the future of AA and the program of recovery back then or not is immaterial to the hands of God and mind of man all over it. Page 68 of the Big Book states: "The verdict of the ages is that all men of faith have courage. They trust their God. We do not apologize for God, instead we LET him demonstrate through us what he can do". Thank you for your courage and faith, Scott. You indeed LET Him demonstrate through your own work, what he can do. Long live AA.

I was just remembering Scott and his positive message and outstanding personality that shone thru as he shared. I had the blessing of hearing/seeing Scott in person at the Sunflower Roundup in Kansas City, Ks on Feb 25, 1994. I listen every once in a while. Loved how he told the newcomer with a plan, "don't use the plan, tell us the plan, we want to hear your plan" so funny but true! Hope his wife and boys are well.

Dear Scott, I was a student and radio broadcaster at a national convention in L.A. in 1984- April of 1984 at Studio City,CA and a member of a recovery program. I needed a meeting, called Central Office and you picked me up and took me to the Friday Log Cabin Group Candlelight Mtg. Thank you , Scott. In 1997, a friend gave me a copy of one of your talks. Our lives were saved by the miracles " in the rooms". Peace.

My precious cousin - I've been thinking about you so much the last few days. I love going through childhood and "grown up" photos of you / us. You were always my #1, my special cousin that I could just be myself with. Your smile, laugh and your presence will always remain with me. You touched so many lives. May you be at peace and may your words of wisdom continue to touch lives and hearts. Love you gigantically!

I'm sad to discover Scott Redman has passed. He was the main speaker years ago at a conference in Lake Geneva, WI. His sharing shifted gears in my recovery. He brought humor to recovery from a deadly disease. Blessings to his wife, Nancy & his children. I carry his message.

June 7, 2019

Scott was a friend, I met him in the rooms and we became friends. He is an important part of my life.

In 1976 I was a 15 year old student (member? Camper?) for a 6 week summerstock program at Robert Louis Stevenson school in NYC. Scott was our director. Naturaly as a young shy & less than trusting girl I was in awe of him - him with his filterless Pall Malls & "larger than any room" personality could ever contain but that summer was transformative for me. New to NY, new to improv, new to new people. I have always treasured that summer & the encouragement and acceptance Scott always showed. Fast forward to 2001 (myself 9 years sober) & I'm at a Round Up in the Antelope Valley, CA. It's HIM. Isn't it amazing the people we have these very strong connections to - whenever in your life - end up running into us again. In the program. We ARE the chosen ones. What a special, special man. I'm sorry he has left us but so, so grateful to have known him as a kid & then to have had his path cross mine again as an adult.

A friend I never knew, but feel like I do... I got sober after Scott's passing, just wanted to say that even when he's gone he's helping me along my path with the most uplifting, truly inspirational tapes that I have had and am having the pleasure of listening to on an almost weekly basis.

I was driving today and needed to hear your voice, I put on your DVD and listened to your speak in N.Y after 9/11. I love the story of the woman that made the tree her GOD ,one day the city came in and cut the tree down, the woman was running after the garbage truck and said OH GOD PLEASE SAVE ME TREE.

I have several of Scott's recordings, which have been an incredible gift to me. His ability to bring humor into an often depressing subject was amazing. He taught me the value of laughing at the things we've done and thought, while realizing the seriousness of the disease.

Scott will be missed but certainly not forgotten.

Patrick T

July 1, 2008

I just heard Scott's message for the first time, maybe by some act of my HP, or maybe he was just bumped up on XA due to his death....either way, it was powerfull and funny. It was soo amazing i had to know more about this man.....I am sad at what i found. However he is now with that one that we cannot fully understand in our mortal human state, and i hope now he does!

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.May the sun shine warm upon your face.May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.

June 30, 2008

I never met Scott personally, but his warmth and humor and honesty are palpable and I'm grateful that he will remain with many of us in his recordings. My deepest sympathies to Nancy and Micah and Jesse. It's awful to lose such a wonderful light and vibrant presence. Yet, he made it clear that each of you gave as much to his life as he did to yours. His deep love for each of you has healed and enriched my own family relationships in ways impossible to describe.

My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to Scott's family. May God bless you and give you strength for your tragic loss.

Scott, you will be missed by thousands. You taught me a lot just by seeing you in the rooms and speaking to you whenever you would visit Carlsbad and Vista. I am profoundly grateful for your friendship and your message will stay with me forever. You taught me to laugh at myself and not to take myself so seriously. Knowing you was a gift and a true blessing. May your legacy and spirit live on.

To Scott: Thank you: for sharing yourself with us, your experience, your strength, your hope, your humor, your time, and mostly your love of Life. You will be missed, but you will live on through your recorded talks as long as there are devices to play them and people who will want to listen to your wit and wisdom -- in other words, forever.

To Scott's Family: Thank you for sharing Scott with us. May your heavy hearts be touched by the tender love of the God whom Scott loved to talk and joke about... and who now has welcomed Scott to a very special place in His presence.

To Scott's Thousands of Friends and Admirers: Let us all honor this beautiful spirit by living something Scott believed; by being real... by bringing a smile to someone else's face... by passing along the gifts we've been given, and by doing the best we can to live happy, joyous and free lives, a day at a time.

with gratitude,

Nothing was funny when I was first coming around. I just was not getting it. My sponsor, in desperation, sent me some tapes. One of them was a talk of Scott R's. He made me laugh, a lot!!!..I know that helped open the crack for God to start getting bigger. I am so grateful to him. What a sad thing for your family. I am so sorry.

June 10, 2008

I asked God for strength that I may achieve and I was made weak that I might humbly learn to obey.
I asked God for health that I might do great things and I was given sickness and I did miracles.
I asked God for power that I might have the praise of others and I was given powerlessness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life and I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for but everything that I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered and I am among those most richly blessed.

Thank you Redman family for sharing Scott with us and teaching us about, "Throwing Buicks at each other."
'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God
will not protect you.'
With a heavy heart we pray....

Dear Family and loved ones of Scott, We all hate it when one of us goes to the great beyond because we are never ready for that, but each one of us has our time. Scott gave love and laughter, probably right to the end, if I know anything about him. So how do you celebrate such a loss? With love and laughter and remembering all the funny things he did and said and how he loved each of you. As long as we have love in our hearts for him, he lives still. So you will meet again, in the mean time I hope you laugh and love and remember the good moments and stories because he would want you to be happy and move on after you grieve. What a bright light in our world. Thank you for sharing him with all of us...there are thousands of us around the world. He done good! My sympathy and my prayers with all of you.

Love and prayers to the family of this remarkable man - he touched hundreds of thousands of lives with his humor and outlook on life, and he will continue to live on as those of us around the country continue to tell his stories. So many phrases come to mind... "pay back ALL the money??" or one of my personal favorites "I guess you weren't specific enough with God when you told him you wanted to work for that company (the spatula story)". I am proud to be one of the ones whose life he touched.
