Sean Cunningham Obituary

Cunningham, Sean
Sean passed away December 31, 2005. He was born on September 16, 1933 in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. Sean made football history in 1957 by scoring the winning goal for County Louth in the All Ireland Gaelic Football Final. In 1958 he immigrated to San Francisco where he met and married Maureen O'Connor. In 1965 they moved to Westchester to raise their children. Sean was a carpenter all his life. He shared his love of working with his hands by teaching his trade to his sons and grandson. Soccer was one of his passions in life; he coached his children and grandchildren officially and from the sidelines. Trips back home to Ireland, visiting Las Vegas, and walking his dog were simple pleasures he enjoyed in life. Above all, Sean was a man who loved his family and his faith. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Bartle, Lawrence, Paddy, and Donald. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Maureen; children, Noreen (Danny) Maricich, Patrick (Delia) Cunningham and Michael (Pamela) Cunningham; and grandchildren, Sean, Michaela, Brieanna, James, Liam and Nikala. He is also survived by brothers, Jim (Joan) Cunningham, Peter (Sally) Cunningham, sister, Maura O'Brien; sisters-in-law, Bridie and Kathleen Cunningham, and numerous nieces and nephews who reside in Ireland. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. at Green Hills Mortuary on Friday, January 6th. Services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 5550 Thornburn Street, Westchester, CA 90045, 310-348-8212. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, 310-831-0311.
