Shawna Hunter Obituary

September 29, 1957 - October 17, 2017 Shawna Mari Hunter passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Saint John's Hospital, Santa Monica, California. She was born September 29,1957 in Santa Monica, the daughter of John and Marian Hunter. Shawna was the younger sister of John Hunter, Jr. and Mara Hunter Redden. She graduated from San Domenico Lower School and High School in San Anselmo, California in 1975 and then attended and graduated "Cum Laude" from the University of Southern California in 1979. Shawna was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and served in many capacities throughout her time as a student. Following college Shawna moved back to the Bay Area and began her professional life in the communications, software and business machines industries. Shawna is survived by her husband, Brad Hunt, mother, Marian Hunter, brother, John Hunter, niece, Jamie Hunter, sister, Mara Hunter Redden and brother-in-law, Dan Redden. There are many members of Shawna's extended family and scores of friends who all mourn her passing. Shawna was an accomplished and successful equestrian rider, and followed her passion to events throughout the Western United States. Not just content with the many horses she raised, trained and rode, she also paid loving attention to her family of dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, and chickens. As we remember and celebrate what she meant to us, all of Shawna's critters mourn her absence as well. Private services for Shawna will be held in November. Mara, John, and Mrs. Hunter,

I am so sad to hear of Shawna's passing. I will always remember her smile, visiting with her, and having her on my boat in the Delta waterskiing. She was such a fun and wonderful young woman who always had a positive attitude. She was a gift to the world.

I am terribly saddened at the news of Shawna's passing. While we didn't see each other frequently since graduating from USC in 1979, it was always a joy when we did. Whenever I saw Shawna it seemed time had not passed since the last time we were together. That sparkle in her eye and dimple on her check will forever remain in my thoughts. She made my college years fun and memorable. Shawna will remain at the top of my list of college friends of whom I reflect fondly from those years. She made all of us better for having known her. She will be missed.
