Susan Perkins Obituary

1941 - 2023 On July 22nd, heaven rolled out the red carpet, uncorked the champagne and struck up the band to welcome Susan Jane Perkins.

Some people are born with Hollywood in their genes, and that was Susan.

Her parents were Lucille and Gil Perkins, both of whom worked at 20th Century Fox. Gil was a famous stuntman back in the Golden Age of Hollywood and Lucille worked in a variety of different departments. Susan was practically born on a set, so it came as no surprise when she got her first job at 20th Century Fox. It was a job she loved for over 40 years and a place she left her mark.

Susan started in what was known as the "secretarial pool" and began in the script department. She went on to work in practically every department at 20th Century from production to postproduction, studio ops, wardrobe, print department, script department, in-theatre marketing and distribution. Susie also worked with many major movie producers, directors and writers like Mel Brooks, Johnny Depp, Alan Ladd Jr., and Renee Valente. When they asked her to take on a more permanent job, she responded with a very definitive "no." She had so much more fun wandering and loved working with a wide variety of creatives. Oh, the stories she would tell!! If you were lucky enough to know her, you most likely remember some of those stories. She loved regaling friends and family with all the juicy inside secrets and backstage tales, and she never had a shortage of tales to tell.

When she wasn't at work, Saturdays were always reserved for tennis with her Dad. Her love of tennis started when she was little. She would always accompany her dad to Jack Warner's house (yes, Jack Warner of Warner Brothers!) and while Gil played tennis with other celebrities, Susie played dolls with Jack's daughter. She also kept a watchful eye on the fun her Dad was having on the tennis court.

Everyone who met Susan loved her which was testament to her vivacious personality, quick wit, generous spirit, and loving nature. She was also fiercely independent and flat out refused any modern technology, and only in the last few years traded her TV with the rabbit ears for a flat screen. Susan also finally agreed to accept the gift of an old iPhone, but no computer was ever welcomed into her house.

Susan lived life boldly, laughed loudly, loved deeply and leaves behind the Australian family she adored and a legacy of incredible lifelong friendships, all of whom loved her greatly and will miss her every day.

I knew Susan ("Susie") Perkins for many years, having met her at the Warner home when she would visit with her father Gil. She loved Hollywood and she loved all the people who made movies. She would check in on my family as we all got older, and her heart was full of genuine care and love for my parents as they aged. I will miss her, and her wonderful enthusiasm of the "good old days."
