Thomas McCutchan Obituary

May 8, 1929 - August 1, 2014 Thomas Oliver McCutchan was born in Healdsburg, California, the third son of Emily Segesman McCutchan and William Alfred McCutchan. Tom attended Healdsburg High School where he excelled throwing the javelin as a member of the track team. Tom went on to the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with the Class of 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, Tom served his country in Korea as an Army First Lieutenant. Upon returning to the Bay Area, he began his career and married Doryce Taylor, to whom he remained devoted for the rest of his life. Tom had a rewarding career in which he established several engineering companies and developed communities throughout Southern California. Tom and Doryce moved to San Marino in 1963, where they raised their two children. Tom's ultimate focus was his family - whom he loved dearly. We will miss his comforting presence, his meaningful advice, his honesty, his passion for fly fishing and his loving smile. Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doryce; his brother, Bill McCutchan; his children and their spouses, Tom & DeeDee McCutchan and Katie & Tim Carey; his seven grandchildren, Christine Cook (Matthew), Kimberly and Courtney McCutchan, Madison, Thomas, Grace and Taylor Carey; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will be forever grateful for Tom's love, humor and counsel. Tom will be remembered by the family he loved so dearly in a private service on August 9th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to Huntington Memorial Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 100 West California Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91105.
