Thomas Viertel

VIERTEL, Thomas Aug. 07, 1925 - Sept. 1, 2009 Born in Vienna, Austria, the youngest of Berthold and Salka Viertel, resided in Los Angeles from 1928 to 2004, passed away at his home in Lynnwood, WA. Beloved of his wife Ruth, cherished father of Andrew (Alissa) and enchanted grandfather of Harrison James and Anna Elisabeth. Preceded in death by his brothers John and Peter, he is survived by nieces Victoria Kingsland, Christine Viertel and Valerie Viertel, great niece and nephew Rachel and Ebon Slade, several cousins and caring in-laws, Violette Viertel and Mabel and Rev. Louis Simmen. A gentle, compassionate man, avid reader and walker, and gifted poet, he will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held at Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church, 8109 224th St., S.W., Edmonds, WA, on Sat., Oct. 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sno-Isle Library Foundation, 7312 35th Ave., N.E., Marysville, WA, would be Tom's wish.
