Wendy Howell Obituary

December 25, 1937 - June 2, 2018 Wendy Lee Howell was given the gift of life on Christmas Day, 1937 and gave it back to our Lord God on June 2, 2018 at the age of 80. She was born in Los Angeles, California and had been a longtime resident of Redondo Beach and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. She lately had moved to Belmont Village in Rancho Palos Verdes, where it was soon discovered she had cancer and very unexpectedly left our world and entered into eternal rest. Wendy was raised in Studio City and North Hollywood, attended North Hollywood High School, graduated from Pomona College in 1960 with a BA in Education Psychology and received her Teaching Credential at UC Berkeley Graduate School. She also completed post graduate studies in Education at both UCLA and Dominguez Hills. Soon after Wendy was given the opportunity to teach for one year at the Misawa US Airforce Base in northern Japan. While there, Wendy took the challenge and climbed Mt. Fuji. In 1969 she began her lifelong career of 31 years with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District as elementary school teacher, where she taught at La Cresta, Rancho Vista, Montemalaga, and Silver Spur schools. Wendy's love for teaching was instilled in her niece April Stalker, and her nephew Dean Howell and wife Jenny. Wendy Howell was a bright and breezy spirit who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was always there to brighten the lives of others. She had an engaging gift of conversation with everyone, who then became their friend. She was passionate about spectator sports, especially the LA Dodgers and Rams, and don't even think you could match wits with her knowledge of movies, TV, books, and trivia! Wendy was an avid reader and member of the Woman's Book Club and Malaga Cove Library Book Club. Wendy Howell is survived by her only brother, Brent Flaherty Howell and wife Beth Howell of Rolling Hills, and their adult children, Dean Howell and wife Jenny, April Howell Stalker, and Laura Howell Khaledi and husband Kashy. Wendy also took great delight in her grandnephews, Graham, Finn and Beck Stalker, and grandnieces Emma Howell and Vivienne Khaledi. As a loving and yet brave lady, Wendy did share with her brother Brent, "My heart is full, with no regrets. I want laughter and humor at my funeral!" Donations in memory of Wendy Howell can be made to: Peninsula Education Foundation, 300A Paseo del Mar, PVE, CA 90274; www.pvpef.org Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Historic Church at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. (310) 831-0311

I moved to Rancho Palos Verdes with my family in 1994 and Ms. Howell was my third grade class teacher. She made a kid from the other side of the world feel at home quickly so that I don't have many memories of being the new kid at school. In the short time I knew her, she was kind and funny and lovely. May her soul rest in peace.

My memories of Wendy include her love of books which she borrowed from our local libraries and which she was always losing!!. Also, Wendy had a love for the British Royal family and was excited to watch all the television showings of the latest wedding.I'm sure she's smiling up in Heaven on reading these few lines. I miss you, Wendy and please save a chair for me besides you and send me down a message if you owe money at the library = I'm happy to pay any amount for you....love Joyce (Friday lunch lady)...
