William Gile Obituary

June 26, 1925 - December 2, 2016 William "Bill" Gile was born to Evelyn Hill Gile and Laurence Bliss Gile at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, a 10th generation American whose ancestors fought in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. He died on December 2, 2016 in Whittier, California shortly after suffering a heart attack. He leaves behind his loving wife Barbara, five children, their spouses and partner, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by sisters Marie Dalton, Margaret Dolan, George-Anna Mowrey, and Laura Sharp, great grandson Nate Cosentino and his first wife Jean Gable. In Los Angeles as a boy he delivered papers for the Hollywood Citizen News. After graduating from Belmont High School he attended the University of Texas on a Navy Scholarship and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Navy for four years and returned to Los Angeles to begin his career. At the height of the building boom in Los Angeles, he became a representative for manufacturers of valves and engineering materials. He built a steady career and during this time he met and married Jean Gable. They moved to Whittier in 1956. Together they had three children, Nancy Waldner, William Jeffrey Gile and John Laurence Gile. After the death of his youngest sister's husband he encouraged her to move to Whittier. He became actively involved in the young lives of her children: Victoria, Will, and Jeff Sharp. In 1960 he designed and built the family home on Eastridge Drive where he resided until his death. Bill met his second wife Barbara in 1975 and they lovingly merged their families, with her two daughters Laura Jimenez and Dawn Bova. The extended family joined together frequently and he loved nothing more than being surrounded by all of them. Bill and Barbara traveled extensively and enjoyed exploring the world. They were involved in many of Whittier's civic organizations. He lived a long and healthy life and realized most, if not all of his dreams. Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at 12 PM in the Friendly Hills Country Club. For more information contact: [email protected] The family supports memorial contributions to: Project Angel Food, 922 Vine Street, Hollywood, CA 90038 www.angelfood.org or Whittier Y's Men's Club, 12510 E.
