William C. Mackel

March 28, 1932 - September 27, 2014 William Charles Mackel, 1932-2014 Bill Mackel has finished the race. He died at Santa Teresita Manor on September 27, 2014 after several months of acute illnesses. Bill was born in Los Angeles to John and Marguerite Mackel. He attended Loyola High School (Class of 1951), Loyola University, and USC. After service in the Navy during the Korean War he worked in the building design field. He later became a contractor, developer, and property manager. Much of the time Bill worked closely with his father and brothers, John Jr., Larry and Tom. He also developed projects on his own. He leaves his beloved wife and partner, Rose Marie, his children Paul Mackel (Michelle), Katherine Horn (Rev. Dr. Gregory), and Jennifer (Stephen) Lande, grandchildren Evan Horn and Lt. Jessica Horn USN, and his brothers Larry (Gigi) and Tom (Marty). His son Timothy died as a boy and his brother John Jr. (Betsy) died in 1989. He was close to his children and nieces and nephews. He was a kind, generous, and accomplished man. There is consolation in the knowledge that he has won the prize - sorrow in the realization that we won't see his smiling face until we meet again. A Rosary at 10:30 will be followed by Mass at 11:00 on Friday, Oct.3rd at St. Joseph Chapel at Santa Teresita, 819 Buena Vista St., Duarte, CA 91010.
