The Jaycees chose him as director of the Scotland County Sheltered Workshop which they sponsored until it was absorbed by the county. In the Kiwanis Club he held the long-lasting title of Outings Committee Chairman for his skills at barbecuing pigs using his secret sauces.
Other interests included enjoying a wide range of music resulting in a collection of jazz, rhythm & blues, big bands and bagpipe recordings. He also enjoyed dancing, extensive reading and his Austin Healy sports car.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years Marilyn Adams McVicker of the home; daughter, Laurie Rogers and her husband Paul of Laurinburg; three grandsons, Zachary Rogers (Rachael) of Cullowhee, NC, and Garrett Rogers and Nicholas Rogers, both of Laurinburg. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gerald P. McVicker.
