MCCOLL, S.C. — Mary "Margaret" Hodge departed this life on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2025. Those who know her have no doubt she was ushered into the eternal joy of her Lord.
She was born June 13, 1945, in Laurinburg, the loving daughter of the late Martin Calvin Johnson and the late Ollie Wright Johnson. She was raised in Laurinburg, NC until her high school years, when she moved to McColl, South Carolina, with her family, where she graduated from McColl High School. For many years, Margaret worked in the textile industry. In both high school and places of employment, Margaret formed a plethora of endearing, life-long friendships.
Anyone who was in Margaret's presence soon found her to be a woman of faith. She was quick to share the message of Jesus Christ with anyone who would lend her their ear. She never met a stranger — whether in a store, a restaurant, or a doctor's office; therefore, she shared Christ with many people. Margaret was a renowned Bible teacher and hundreds of people readily shared how her teaching inspired them in their Christian walk. She was often called a walking, talking concordance due to the fact that she knew almost any verse in the Bible. Margaret was also known as a prayer warrior who many people turned to for prayerful support in their times of need. She always saw the best in people and readily gave extra, heaping measures of grace.
Margaret was greatly invested in her local church, Northview Harvest Ministries, and loved being a part of her Berean Sunday School Class. The highlight of her week was to gather with her brothers and sisters in Christ to worship Him and receive of His Word. Before her health became a debilitating factor, Margaret loved assisting in the ministry of Restoring Hope Center (the outreach ministry of Northview Harvest Ministries).
Preceding Margaret in death are her parents, her brothers, A.C. Johnson, Bobby Johnson, and Archie Johnson, her sister, Betty Combs.
Those left to cherish Margaret's memory are her husband, Edward Hodge of McColl, South Carolina, son, Tim (Kim) of Laurinburg; her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Nanny" - Teddy (Jodi) of Lexington, South Carolina, Kendall (Doug) Kennedy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Josiah (Serena) of Pell City, Alabama, and Jordan (Kate) Hodge of Adrews, South Carolina; and eight great-grandchildren, Selah, Zach, Ezra, Levi, Emmet, Simon, Rebekah Joy and Eamon.
Arrangements for Margaret's celebration of life are as follows: Visitation will be at 2 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Northview Harvest Ministries. The service will begin at 3 p.m. Northview Harvest Ministries is located at 17760 Log Cabin Lane, Laurinburg, NC. The burial will take place at Rose Lawn Cemetery on Hwy 15-401, McColl, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for Restoring Hope Center and can be mailed to: Restoring Hope Center, P.O. Box 1497, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
