Edward "Ed" John McGill

Surrounded by his family, and with his son David, by his side, Edward "Ed" John McGill passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the age of 54 years. Ed had lived in the Long Beach area for his entire life. He graduated from Lakewood High, where he was the top scorer for his senior year water polo team, and California State University of Long Beach. After obtaining his teaching credentials from Cal State Dominguez Hills, Ed pursued a career in the field of education. As a local high school instructor, he taught health science for the last ten years. Ed was a spiritual man, and along with his son, was an active member of Parkcrest Christian Church of Long Beach. Ed and David were avid Laker fans and enjoyed basketball and other sports, both as participants and viewers. Ed was a devoted father who overcame many obstacles throughout his life. Ed is survived by his son, David; mother, Judith; and many other loving family members and close friends. Ed's family and friends take comfort in knowing he has returned to God. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017, 11am at Parkcrest Christian Church, 3936 Woodruff Ave, Long Beach, CA 90808. Reception immediately following at the church.
