Elizabeth Edwards Obituary
August 12, 1928 - December 10, 2020 Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Edwards. Born August 12, 1928 in Corvallis, Oregon to George Clive Booth and Ruth Elizabeth (Homan) Booth. Died December 10, 2020 in Sparks, Nevada in peace with family by her side. Betty was born and forever lived as a vivacious, theatrical, and passionate Leo who loved to bask in the spotlight. She walked the walk and took great pride in being a Leo. Betty even wrote a fictional novel called "It's All in the Stars" about a woman set out to date a man from each of the astrological signs. She was a beloved educator in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District for over twenty-five years teaching English, History, Acting, Video/Film, and Drama. Students in her Drama classes called her "Drama Momma". She was an innovator always looking for techniques that enable her students of all ages to relate, work, and learn more effectively. Betty's greatest asset as a teacher was her ability to motivate students and inspire them to believe in themselves. In the 1960's Betty balanced writing, post-graduate work, and teaching all while managing a growing family. Ms. Edwards received an A.A. from Long Beach City College as valedictorian, B.A. in Social Science, M.A. in History, and teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach. At heart, Betty was a writer. She published over 70 articles and feature stories in magazines and newspapers, including Cosmopolitan, New Women, Glamour, Family Circle, LA Times, Long Beach Press Telegram, West Ways, and Orange Coast. She co-authored two books with Emily Coleman: Body Liberation: Freeing your Body for Greater Self-Acceptance, Health, and Sexual Satisfaction (Tarcher, 1977) and Brief Encounters: How to Make the Most of Relationships That May Not Last Forever (Double Day, 1979). After retiring Betty shared her love of writing with hundreds of adult students who took her popular "The Article in You" seminar. Betty loved the adventure of traveling and seeing the great and many treasures the world had to offer. Betty was decades ahead of the "selfie" trend. In the seventies and eighties she would wrangle a fellow traveler or local to take her picture as she mugged it up for the camera. That's her carrying a backpack in the Alps, riding a camel in Egypt, buying trinkets from a vendor in Red Square, wrestling an alligator in the Amazon, and walking on the Great Wall of China. Every trip was memorialized in its own photo book to revisit and cherish when she could travel no more. Elizabeth Ann Booth Edwards. May you bask in the love we all feel for you. You had a wonderful 92 years touching many lives, exploring iconic locations, and reaching for the furthest stars in the sky. We will not forget you; but we will laugh and cry as we recall all the funny, poignant, and wonderful moments in the big life of Betty Edwards. Betty is survived by her three children from her marriage to Ivan Edwards; daughter Kathryn Jenkins, son Steve Edwards, and daughter Lisa Cooper, brothers Stan Booth and Jim Booth, eleven grand kids, and five great-grand kids.
