Ethel Marcus Obituary

Ethel Marcus 1916 - 2009 Ethel Marcus, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on April 29, in the home she shared in Visalia, CA, with daughter, Susanne and her beloved yappy little dog, Benny, a few weeks shy of her 93rd birthday. A resident of Leisure World Mutual 15 for over 20 years, Ethel loved to play cards and mahjong with her many Seal Beach area friends. She traveled extensively,including by car from Philadelphia to Los Angeles with three young daughters in 1945, to Mexico, Europe Turkey and Israel with her husband Sam, who died in 1975, to England with Mutual 15 friend Frank Ellsworth, on cruises to Mexico and A laska with friends and family. Ethel was a beautiful, lively, generous Jewish mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved to dance and was known for her sense of humor and hospitality. Her nephew Teller, the Las Vegas entertainer , wrote, "She was a great person and, apart from my own parents, my very favorite relative. Brash, bright, sexy and brimming with the joy of life." To Ethel, her daughters and family were always the most beautiful/handsome, talented and wonderful people in the worl d. Ethel is survived by daughters, Eleanor Reynolds (Sid Stein) of Seattle, WA, Carole Brown (David) of Florence, OR, and Susanne Gundy; grandchildren, Mallory and Langdon Roberts, Tiphanie Anderson, (Tim), Michael Reynolds, (Katherine) and Maurice Gundy; great-grandchildren, Trey and Tabitha Anderson, Bridgit Harding, Jake and Julia Mates/Reynolds; and nephew, Teller. Two grandchildren, Wendell Roberts and Michelle Reynolds (Eric Harding), preceded her in death. Friends and family are invited to a celebrat ion of Ethel's life at her Seal Beach Leisure World apartment, 1941 St. John Road, 34L, on Saturday, May 16, beginning at 1:00 p.m. or from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 15. For more information, call Susanne at (559) 679-4846. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, SPCA or your favorite charity.
